Take a look back ten or fifteen years ago we were all getting excited about new technology and methods of communication. Suddenly the world began to open up as we logged on with our new computers with dial up connections. Technology progressed. Broadband came into existence. We were able to connect and look at events around the world quicker.
In today’s society, technology has become advanced. We are now able to look at events in real time, from a gadget that we pull from our pockets. Want to comment? Have your say? –why not put it out to the world on facebook? Want to be more specific and guided? Twitter it. No fluff allowed here. Speed is the key, we desire instant gratification.
The same can be said when people come across some health challenges. This is especially so when dealing with pains arising from either the muscle or joints of the body. By going to see your GP about that persistent nagging pain in your low back, you will either be prescribed a pain killing medicine, or an anti-inflammatory medication. These drugs allow instant gratification (but not always).
Pain is a warning sign. Specialised nerve endings in tissues of the body are designed to be activated when damage occurs with the pain being the result. Taking an anti-inflammatory or painkilling medication would be like taking the batteries out of a fire alarm when it’s been activated because you didn’t like the noise it made! Medications for back pain are nothing more pain management solutions. The magic bullet. The instant gratification that we all desire in today’s modern world.
Unfortunately, medication does nothing to address the cause of your back pain. To find the cause and have it treated requires a specialist. The body takes time to heal. Respect the fact that not everything can occur at the speed of facebook messenger.
